Zingaro Nature & Marine Reserve

Zingaro coast is one of the few tracts of the coast of Sicily not yet contaminated by the presence of a coastal road. In 1976, the construction of the Scopello - S.Vito Lo Capo road had begun, but a series of initiatives and demonstrations by the environmentalist world, culminated in a crowded protest march on May 18th 1980, the Regional Forest Company of Sicily undertook to expropriate the area of Zingaro, recognizing its great environmental interest.
